Team Leader - Resilient Futures Planning, Melbourne Water

Beth McLachlan

Beth McLachlan has over ten years’ experience in building and leading climate change,
resilience, water and flood strategies across state and local government.
In her current role, Beth leads a team focused on climate change and resilience planning,
strategic land use planning and future flood planning. Current projects and activities being
delivered by her team include building and implementing the Port Phillip and Westernport
Flood Management Strategy, identifying and trialling enhancements to our flood
management approaches, understanding and managing climate risks to Melbourne Water,
Melbourne Water’s carbon offset purchasing program, Melbourne Water’s urban cooling
program, scoping Melbourne Water’s new erosion role and understanding opportunities to
use the planning system to better protect our catchments and waterways, and managing
flood risks.
Prior to her current role, Beth worked at the City of Melbourne where she led the
implementation of their climate change adaptation strategy, led the development of their
climate mitigation strategy and water strategy and developed an approach to enable the
organisation to become carbon neutral.
Beth has a Master’s Degree in Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Management
from Monash University.
