Queensland Minister for Fire & Emergency Services

The Hon. Craig Crawford MP

Born and raised on a dairy farm in Western Victoria, Minister Crawford was educated in the local public school system. After graduation from Cobden Technical School Minister Crawford entered the workforce and worked in a number of industries including Night Manager and later a Duty Manager of a large resort where he oversaw a number key areas from restaurants, reception, rooms and housing keeping.

Minister Crawford became a member of the Country Fire Authority (CFA) as a volunteer firefighter, working in a number of different brigades across Victoria. He experienced fighting structural fires, bush fires, grass, fires, car fires and many more, and was elevated to the rank of Captain of the CFA Brigade in Colac.

In 2000 in Colac, Minister Crawford gained employment with the Rural Victorian Ambulance. Minister Crawford was educated by the Ambulance at Monash University and graduated with a Diploma in Ambulance and Paramedic studies, he then trained for his on-road component in Geelong where he worked for a few years until he was qualified as a full time Paramedic.

In 2008 Minister Crawford relocated to Cairns and became a Paramedic at Mareeba Station with the Queensland Ambulance Service. In 2011 he was transferred to the Cairns Station and worked there until his election in 2015, representing the seat of Barron River in the Queensland Parliament.

In Parliament Minister Crawford has previously served on the Finance and Administration committee and currently is serving on both the Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources and Ethics committees; as well as being Minister for Fire and Emergency Services.

At Disaster Management 2019, Minister Crawford will be providing a keynote presentation, which will be focused on Queensland’s approach to surviving and thriving the disaster season.
